Boots are worn not only for functionality these days but also as a style statement. Due to the wide variety of the types available today, this footwear has become very popular around the world. They come in many different varieties from the traditional cowboy boots to the Gothic boots worn today by Gothic romantics everywhere. There are, of course, many kinds that are used due to their functionality but this has not stopped people from making them more fashionable to wear. In fact boots such as rain boots that are used when it rains to avoid getting our feet wet, come in a variety of styles and designs to suit every need.

But even if you only want to wear them as a fashion statement you have plenty of options. They are available for men, women and also for children. You can divide boots into many different categories and segregate them into many different genres. One way of dividing them is by their height. When it comes only up to or slightly above the ankle, it is called an ankle boot or "booty". These boots or "booties" can be worn with a wide range of clothes and they go particularly well with dresses and short skirts.

Another type of boot is the slouch boot. These get their names from the fact that the top portions of these boots slouch and appear to be falling down. They have become extremely popular these days and come in a wide variety of styles, designs and materials. They can be worn with all types of clothes but they go very well with pants that are snugly fitted all the way down or at least to the ankles. They can be found in a short or long style. The shorter version does not allow for any playing room but the longer type of slouch boot can be either worn folded down or not.

Doc Martins are also a popular variety of boots named after their inventor Dr. Maertens. They are distinct because of their air cushioned soles which are very comfortable. Engineer boots are also very popular and were used by motorcyclists in the 50's to protect their legs from the heat of the engine. They are usually around twelve inches high with a straight side and low heels, and can have leather strap buckles for a better fit.

Other types of boots are cowboy, Chelsea or Beatle, chukka, combat, desert, galoshes, hiking, jockey and many more boots. You can choose the one that suits you best depending on the weather, your needs and also of course the style statement you want to display.
